If you are an External Examiner at QMUL, you can help the arbitrary undermining of Quality Assurances. As an External Examiner, you are responsible for ascertaining procedures have been fair and adequate. The mitigations which Senior Management has put in place undermine those. They are often in breach of the Assessment Handbook which should guide our actions and your examining.
These mitigations are an attempt to progress and graduate students according to the ordinary calendar, but in the process, they disadvantage students (both those affected by the mitigations and those who do not get the different treatment), and do not guarantee that the marks awarded reflect academic achievement.
Members in the Schools you are External Examiner for can inform you about what has happened locally. If you do not know who they are, contact us on ucu-coordinator@qmul.ac.uk.
In 2022, many of the External Examiners resigned in protest against the 100% pay deductions for ASOS and demands to reschedule work withdrawn as part of legal industrial action.
