As part of its campaign to save the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences from ill-conceived management restructuring plans, QM UCU has written to the MPs in whose constituencies our members are most concentrated to alert them to the threat to education and jobs. Local Hackney MP Diane Abbott has already replied to express her sympathy and wants to be kept fully updated. We have also written to the Science and Technology and the Business, Universities and Skills select committees in the Commons and the Lords.
All UCU members are strongly encouraged to write to their own MPs and councillors to ask them to intervene. Under parliamentary rules, MPs are only allowed to act on behalf of their constituents, so it is vital that these requests come from local people.
